New and Full Moons for January/February 2015

 The New Moon

This falls on January 20th 2014, today, at 13.15 GMT on the very 1st degree of Aquarius. The Sabian Symbol for it is: “An Old Adobe Mission”. The New Moon sets the tone until the Full Moon a fortnight later which can be seen as the ‘result’ of how we all expressed the promise or potential of the New.  Here is an interpretation of this Symbol from The Astrological Oracle, but, as ever, please endeavour to read what this Sabian Symbol is saying to you personally, perhaps using my interpretation as a prompt to your own intuition, if it is not directly applying to your current situation or question, or to the world at large…
SSP301 20-1-14An Old Adobe Mission”(Sun & Moon)

The Persistence of Faith

What is important now is a persistence of faith – no matter how simple or far-flung from its source – in the better or spiritual side of life and humanity, and in your constant striving towards higher aims. And so your issue has basically to do with the state of your faith, and how true you are being to it – especially when out on a limb. Keep focused on something that is good and old and true about you that cannot but help assist others (and yourself) in the search for lasting faith and peace, as well as with practical matters. Try seeing yourself as an outpost of your beliefs and ethics, upholding worthy values and standards in situations that are particularly lacking in them. But beware of sticking to beliefs and traditions without any attempt to reform them or express them in an original or appreciable way. And avoid foisting your beliefs on those who are not interested, or helping where help is not needed or asked for. Symbolically, as adobe is mud or dung mixed with straw, this symbolizes that faith and health often are built and depend upon recycling and dealing with ones ‘shit’ or whatever you can get stuck in. Faith and good health will persist providing one does not get entrenched in the bog of dogma or the constipation of old emotional attachments or habits. So continue or endeavour to keep doing whatever is necessary to keep your faith alive and fresh and relevant to the moment while at the same time maintaining old and eternal values that have stood the test of time. Resist hanging on to some belief, memory or experience that is preventing you from moving on, or actually finding you so out of touch as to be devitalized and unwell. “A faint heart never won a fair lady…or a good man, or anything else worth a damn”

The coming Full Moon falls on February 3rd at 23.10 GMT on the 15th degree of Leo with the Sun on the opposite 15th degree of Aquarius for which the Sabian Symbols are respectively: “Two Lovebirds Sitting on a Fence” and “A Pageant”.  Bear in mind that a Full Moon is making us aware of something, as the Sun or consciousness is illuminating the Moon or what is unconscious. It is also that ‘result’ of the New Moon described above. The following interpretations are taken from The Astrological Oracle, helping you to read what these Sabian Symbols are saying to you about your own situation and/or that of the world…
SSP315 2-2-14“Two Love Birds Sitting On A Fence” (Moon)

A Need To Agree To Move On

You are being shown that in order to get the best out of your situation or resolve any difficulties, you have to initiate a definite change in the way you are going about things. Only then will there come a magic created through a tender sharing, a shift in perspective or anything that will put a different complexion on what concerns you. Alternatively, two or more people who constantly fluctuate and cannot come down on one side or the other. Be alive to the fact that one person making a move or change automatically causes the other to do so too. Also, to the possibility that you and your concern may simply be ‘resting’ before taking off again when ready to. Watch out for intimacy unrealized owing to a reluctance to take the plunge into the unknown – or being restricted by habit or fear of change, or of making a decision. Karmically, before something can come together or move on there has to be closure or a decision to proceed, separately or together, that is not compromised by one person (or part of you) wanting one thing and the other person (or part of you) wanting something else – or by simply hoping against hope. This last option can take the form of a third party or event that comes along to force the issue; it may ultimately be the only solution to breaking a deadlock. Keep focused on only the best, most positive and creative reasons for doing something or being with someone, and settle for nothing less. Be on guard against mere restlessness or being ‘a bird in a gilded cage’ by staying with something because it is merely convenient and easier than confronting the unknown. Such a ‘cage’ can be waste of life – for both yourself and others.”The course of true love never did run smooth” (Shakespeare)

Ongoing Story

Our situation is seen, or is best viewed, as a part of the parade of our history and experience, of the doings and to-ings and fro-ings of ancestors, descendants, friends and all and sundry – and of our own place, small or large, in all this. Evident in this display there is a sense of meaning, continuity, and even glory. Ascertain what your background or history of experience has to offer, be it of name, worth, tradition, or whatever serves to give a sense of continuity, or a place and a time, to all who become involved with you. See the ups and downs, dramas and doldrums, as just all being part of the story of your life.  But avoid pure ostentation – or pretentiousness that can be dangerously deluding and economical with the truth, giving you and others a false sense of pedigree or experience. Karmically, this Symbol is beautifully representative of the procession of lifetimes, and of how certain lifetimes, or certain episodes within a lifetime, can be given a bit of a spin to emphasize the wonder of one’s own existence, and of the soul that lives it. Try viewing matters in this light and from this perspective, and then whatever concerns you can be put into context, and not seen as being insignificant or too heavy, or too long or too short. Ask yourself what is the ‘story so far’, and then you will get a greater or clearer idea of the present situation and of what lies ahead. Try to avoid glamorizing or dramatizing anything, be it positive or negative, to the point that it becomes either manic or depressive. Guard against attaching the wrong sort of meaning to your situation by seeing it in isolation from the bigger picture, or the ongoing process of karma.”Trailing clouds of glory do we come /From God, who is our home” (Wordsworth)

Combining these two Symbols points to natural fact that all things move inexorably onward, and that dithering or resisting is missing this point. So the ‘Need to Agree to Move On’ of the Moon Symbol takes on a more imperative note. He who hesitates is lost. Since we ceased being hunter/gatherers thousands of years ago and became settled in communities you could say that we fostered the idea that life doesn’t move on. Consequently we get stuck – in whatever or with whoever it might be. Mostly it is our fears of change colliding with our despair at things remaining as they are that stops the ‘Pageant’ from proceeding.  In other words, we are dogged by a conflict of interests, both individually and as a society or even as a species

But the ‘Pageant’ makes it clear that, regardless of this, it WILL move on.  Returning to the New Moon that seeded this Full Moon, we can say that it the ‘Persistence of Faith’ in a better future that is the major theme here.  To believe in and be open to the idea that things will change for the better is what makes that very thing happen.

Astrology is of course what shows us how the ‘Pageant’, collectively or individually, heralds what is to come, and in so doing prepares us for change in a way that welcomes it in and makes the future something positive – right now!

Your Truth of Being

lyn psychedelic cuDo You Possess the Power that is Your Truth of Being?

2015 kicks off by starkly emphasising the Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave – the Power (Pluto) of Truth (Uranus) – that has been putting us all on notice since 2007 to get a lot more in touch with the Truth of Being. The Truth of Being is what could be called your precise and original design specification – that is, your core identity and actual reason for being here – and ultimately the Truth of Being as it applies to our species as a whole.  Any benefits or difficulties in your life could be described as indications of how on or off course you are with your Truth of Being, with your genuine and unique track.  This is why the name I give to astrological influences through time (Transits and Progression) is ‘Course Corrections’ rather than just ‘influences’. Consultation.

As you may know, in order to make it clear what the Mother-Wave means to us I wrote my book Understanding The Future back in 2006, covering the Wave’s extended period of influence 2007-2020.  In it I not only predicted much of what has already come to pass but endeavoured to show how we can ‘surf’ this Wave  (and others occurring during it) and thereby be transported to a new epoch rather than being ‘wiped out’ as we flounder in the chaos of the old receding.

Uranus cutsquare copyDownload What’s Going Down – Now!

Understanding The Future is not about doom and gloom – it is actually about avoiding these very things by gaining a deeper understanding of Fate in motion. The Power of Truth is immense, and now its Wave is not just rolling and roaring in, it’s peaking!  We can no longer afford not to hear it and see it and feel it, or we may well, as a recent public poll opined, be “going to hell in a hand basket” (or “handcart”, they weren’t sure which)! So in a cry to call you to the Power of Truth I am making available to you a free download of the whole chapter from UTF (or The Future Now as it was its working title) that explains the meaning of the Mother-Wave, with literal references to the ‘Power of Truth’ on pages 32, 44 and 76.  HERE

New and Full Moons December 2014/January 2015

The New Moon
This falls on December 22nd 2014 at 01.37 GMT on the very 1st degree of Capricorn, which is also the Winter Solstice. The Sabian Symbol for it is: “An Indian Chief Demanding Recognition”. So not only does the New Moon set the tone until the Full Moon a fortnight later which can be seen as the ‘result’ of how we all expressed the promise or potential of the New, but it also symbolises how we manifest the ‘increasing of the Light’ which the Winter Solstice initiates.

An Indian Chief Demanding Recognition”(Sun & Moon)

SSP271 21-12-13A Question Of Authority

The situation calls for leadership and authority – or a figure of such that one can utterly respect. In turn, this demands a sense of absolute integrity which will not rest until everything and everyone concerned conforms to its standards and requirements, and heeds what it says. An unequivocal stance. Keep focused on long-held principles and actions for they elicit respect from both those who follow and oppose you. Keep striving to understand and obey what Spirit is telling you concerning the truth of the matter. Watch out for any arrogance or ignorance of certain hard cold facts for they are in time bound to lead to humiliation and/or confusion. With respect to karma here, the word ‘authority’ derives from the same word as ‘author’, and that is the Latin auctor – one who increases or produces. Through lifetimes, or certain stages of them, we build on our ability to do just this; we become, more and more, the authors of our own life stories. And so one’s life is like a film, the production of which determines how it does in the world and in our own eyes, and in the next life. See yourself as being the architect of your own fate, and how your health can also be a testament to how well you are producing that epic called your life, and how well you are promoting that star which is your own personality. Appreciate how such expertise is the ever-accumulating result of effort, learning, courage and the recognition of your higher self and those spiritual betters that guide and encourage us. Resist expecting only the good and not the bad to be recognized. That’s not good. “Experto credite” (Trust one who has gone through it)

The coming Full Moon falls on January 5th at 04.54 GMT on the 15th degree of Cancer with the Sun on the opposite 15th degree of Capricorn for which the Sabian Symbols are respectively: “A Group of People Who Have Overeaten And Enjoyed It” and “Many Toys In The Children’s Ward Of A Hospital”.

“A Group of People Who Have Overeaten And Enjoyed It”(Moon)

SSP105 4-7-13Positive Indulgence

A very real acknowledgement or even celebration of there being more than enough to go round. An indulgence in or of Nature’s supply. Taking joy in the fruits life has to offer ensures their continuance. A flair for summoning up a communal sense of well-being and affluence – thereby attracting these very things.  The possibility that just when you think you have had all you can take, you then start to like it, or that it just doesn’t matter. Observe what being excessive has shown or given you, and then be the wiser and better for having overdone it. Naturally, beware irresponsible indulgence merely for the sake of it, with no sense of significance other than one – when you think about it – of being better off than most. Indulging in your ‘hangover’ rather than getting back to normal. Karmically or previously, which could mean last week or during another lifetime, you were probably overindulging or being hedonistic and had no guilt or doubt about being so. This was okay for you felt it was all part of the wealth of your experience. If however, that spell of excess gave rise to wastefulness or harm to others in any way, then now the piper is having to be paid. This may just be simply a case of health or weight problems created by overdoing it. How what is happening now could relate to past profligacy or damage done through excessiveness or debauchery – or the very opposite – like self-denial or poverty. Possibly the time really has come to ‘fill the gap’ in some other, more spiritual or creative, way.  Determining what any indulgence is acting as a substitute for. But beware of punishing yourself or others too much for past excesses – an indulgence in itself! “The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom” (Blake)

“Many Toys In The Children’s Ward Of A Hospital” (Sun)

SSP285 4-1-14Tender Loving Care

Occasioned or called for here is the fundamental kindness and generosity that is or should be shown to those who have been disadvantaged through no apparent fault of their own, or who are simply in genuine need of care and accommodation. However, considering that this is a saturnine, Capricornian Symbol and hospitals have to have rules, such care has to be tempered with discipline and a setting of limits. ‘Tough love’ if necessary. Utilise your ability to develop your own and others’ potentialities, and take care of yours and their needs, despite any setback that Fate might have dished out. And resist any giving into an idle and irresponsible reliance upon whatever service or materials have been handed out to you. Healthwise this Symbol is saying that you have available to you everything possible for optimum recovery or support. Figuratively speaking, it says that, after some kind of damage or crisis, you have at hand all that is needed to entertain, relieve, redeem or resurrect yourself or others as much as possible. Be sure of meeting the needs of those who cannot help themselves, while believing that special help is always available at one level or another. And take full advantage of whatever help is being offered you, if you are on the receiving end, but watch out for becoming institutionalized or dependent or out-staying your welcome – or being too soft and kind if you are the one doing the ministering; this would be counter-productive. “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God” (St. Mark ch.10 v.14)

Combining these two Symbols presents us two forms of Abundance. The ‘group of people who have overeaten and enjoyed it’ is only too obvious a reference to the whole Christmas holiday where we are obliged to be excessive in order to celebrate something or other.  Contrasting this is the ‘many toys in a children’s ward’ where the abundance of items is there to distract the little ones from their pain and distress. For me, this all reminded me only too well of a TV programme I watched the other night called ‘A & E in a War Zone’ which was about a hospital in Syria straining to help children (and adults) terribly wounded by the horrific weapons of Assad’s forces.  In fact we were told that these forces particularly went after doctors, with many already killed or afraid to practise and run away; those who were there in the hospital were risking death. Insofar as these Symbols show what was the ‘product’ of the New Moon’s “An Indian Chief Demanding Recognition” I am made to think firstly that the so-called ‘chiefs’ in this world do not deserve the authority they have and wield – and that we in the West who supposedly celebrate the birth of Jesus (whose words are those of the biblical quote) are a million miles away from it all.  Then I am made to think what a friend just wrote to me concerning the gulf between civilised society and the truly suffering members of the human race: “How can I be happy when someone out there is hungry? The human dilemma. Do you give away everything you have to help people and leave yourself just as badly off as they are?”

SUN IZ CUT 2 copyDoing Good – If we turn the New Moon Symbol around a bit we get some idea of how to address this perennial problem, again summed up by the Full Moon Symbols. We can only be authentic within the context of how we have made our lives. We should only demand recognition for that which we genuinely care about.  Such recognition then gives rise to the sense that the ‘Indian Chief’ in me is that part which can encompass both happy indulgence and a compassionate heart.  In the end, truly ‘doing good’ is, in the words of Carlos Castaneda’s don Juan, “the shining of one’s spirit” for this contributes to the totality of human goodness. “Now I feel the Sun burst in my heart /Exploding blazing petals free /Streaming beams to darkened reaches /Unfolding golden endlessly”

New and Full Moons November/December 2014

The New Moon
This fell yesterday on November 22nd 2014 at 12.33 GMT on the very 1st degree of Sagittarius. The Sabian Symbol for it is: “A Grand Army of the Republic Campfire”. Remember that the New Moon sets the tone until the Full Moon a fortnight later when we get a kind of ‘read-out’ of how well we ‘got’ or gave expression to the New. As usual, the following interpretation is taken from The Astrological Oracle, but please endeavour to read what this Sabian Symbol is saying to you personally, perhaps using my interpretation as a prompt to your own intuition, if it is not directly applying to your current situation or question…

SSP241 21-11-13The Spirit of Reunion

The situation poses or calls for a gathering of whatever or whoever it might be that once again gives a strong sense of group purpose and connection to our roots – and possibly strength in the face of some common oppressor. For such reunion to be lasting though, it must be relevant to your life as it is now. Foster a cheerful and ongoing ability to bring together kindred spirits, thus making for an even stronger sense of accord. Set to re-energizing old allegiances, but keeping things in perspective. Go about stoking up interest in the object of your concern and remembering who you are in relationship to who you were.  Try to avoid an out of touch and self-congratulatory sense of communion with others that cuts you off rather than unites – and to avoid letting old ties eclipse present ones through a misguided blend of sentiment, exclusivity and enthusiasm.  Spiritually, reunion here can mean the regrouping of a number of people who are on the same ‘soul-flight’, or simply a sense of having met someone before, or any kind of karmic reencounter. Such can evoke both bright and dark memories and feelings, so keep focused on seeing and experiencing those others as first and foremost unavoidable meetings with your own history, and as such they are very important to your present and future development and wellbeing. Be sure to let bygones be bygones and create a sense of comradeship; we are all souls struggling along the path, and as such the main cause for celebration is that we have survived, and the main cause for regret is for those who have not. But both should bring us closer. Be alive to the surfacing of very real issues such as wounds (received or inflicted) that have been re-opened or have not healed properly.”To meet again by a fleeting chance /With the Bells of Time all chiming /In our hearts and minds, /Reason drowned by rhyme.” (LB)
The coming Full Moon falls on December 6th 2014 at 12.28 GMT on the 15th degree of Gemini with the Sun on the opposite 15th degree of Sagittarius for which the Sabian Symbols are respectively: “Two Dutch Children Talking”  and “The Groundhog Looking For Its Own Shadow”.

“Two Dutch Children Talking” (Moon)

SSP075 3-6-13Open Discussion

Always on offer is a simple and ingenuous means by which one can familiarize oneself with whatever milieu is currently of interest or whatever issue needs attention. Becoming aware of the significance and importance of communication, or some specialized form of it. Everyone making an equal contribution, spontaneously promoting free discussion, and open and innocent involvement with all and sundry, thereby resolving problems, dispelling intrigue and suspicion. This Symbol also suggests the free association that is so important and useful when it comes to getting in touch with whatever it is you are after. This can be done by freely associating with this Symbol first, that is to just say what comes to mind straightaway without any forethought, then on to the next word or phrase – on voice-recorder or paper, or with a friend or counsellor who allows you to share or ‘ramble on’ – until you make the right connection.

“Nothing is closed to openness” (LB)
“The Groundhog Looking For Its Own Shadow” (Sun)

SSP255 5-12-13Prediction & Projection

You are involved with the search for some sign of what is to be, and will be bombarded with these signs until you ‘get it’ – for this Symbol refers to a yearly Punxsutawney, PA custom which has to do with predicting a certain type of weather. Implicit in this is a tongue-in-cheek quality of possibly mocking something which was ever a candidate for such – in this instance, soothsaying. But in the end, all prediction is merely the extension or projection of one’s past and present into the future. So stay focused on what you cast before you, then take responsibility for it, and you will see your way forward ever more clearly – rather than falling in with the common reluctance to see one’s own weaknesses and pettiness, then projecting them upon others, only to find oneself hemmed in by what you do not like (about yourself) coming back as external reality, again and again. Also, avoid getting anxious about dubious predictions. Karmically, imagine life as a movie theatre where you are the projector and your life as it appears to happen to you is what you project on to the screen. Your karma is the film that gets fed through the projector; your attitude is the lens of how you see and are seen. So it is the light and shadow of your own being or unconscious that you behold as happening to you. Viewed in this way you can appreciate that what you see is therefore entirely up to you, and will become what your life appears to be. Keep shedding light as love or awareness on what or who is around you and their shadows will diminish or disappear altogether – especially if they are projecting them on to you. On the other hand avoid projecting your fears, distrust, need to control or anything else negative on to the world or future, for they will appear just as fearsome, untrustworthy, controlling, chaos-producing or sick-making. “If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn’t part of ourselves doesn’t disturb us” (Herman Hesse)
Combining these two Symbols presents us with the profound idea that through openly discussing our situations and opinions with others – and particularly those who apparently oppose us – with an awareness that they who oppose us are only catching our shadows – that is, what is unconscious and therefore distrusted, denied or condemned by us – we are able to reach an infinitely greater understanding of both our own state and that of others too. Admittedly this could be seen as idealistic, fanciful even, but it is a very good, maybe the only, model upon which to fashion ourselves in these days of so much opposition and dissension.  This can be on a personal level or a global level – and indeed, the former ultimately gives rise to the latter.  And with respect to the New Moon of which this Full Moon is a product, open discussion and owning one’s  projections IS that Spirit of Reunion.

New and Full Moons October/November 2014

The New Moon
This fell yesterday on October 23rd 2014 at 21.58 GMT on the very 1st degree of Scorpio, and is also a Partial Eclipse of the Sun which indicates that this is something we need to be more than usually mindful of as there is a danger of losing the plot. The Sabian Symbol for it is: “A Sight-Seeing Bus”.

SSP211 22-10-13Look and See

Suggested here is a pleasant and convenient manner of orientating oneself and perusing what’s on offer – and seeing as this is the first degree of Scorpio, an opportunity to spy on, and to look beneath surface appearances of people and events as the anonymous observer! At the same time this puts one neatly in touch with one’s fellow beings or travellers by sharing with them the culture common to the area, or what you have in common with them. Or you could be simply in the midst of a passing show.  Familiarizing yourself with the people and environment appertaining to your situation, thereby creating an intimacy with both faces and places, customs and ways. Orientating yourself by knowing (in relation to where you are) the cardinal points, nearest water, nearest mountain, nature of soil, etc. Avoid an impersonal and profit-motivated approach towards interaction with others and the environment that is ultimately disenchanting or even disastrous. Karmically, this Symbol is telling you that life is allowing you to view what’s available so that you eventually know what to do or get, where to go, or what way to go. You may be reacquainting yourself with somewhere from your past, with a view to taking it up from where you left off. For health, keep moving, busy, watchful, seeing and being seen. It is recommended that you allow yourself to be ‘driven’, enjoying whatever experience you are going through, for it is in this way that you will take on board what is most meaningful and useful to you. Then later you can make your decision or plan. Look at those around you, for they have something in common with you on a very essential level; they are in the same boat as you – but in what respect? …But watch out for always being an observer and never a doer, or thinking that you have not got a life because you are currently assessing what life for you and/or those around you means. “Befriending others eliminates alienation”

The coming Full Moon falls on November 6th 2014 at 06.22 GMT on the 15th degree of Taurus with the Sun on the opposite 15th degree of Scorpio for which the Sabian Symbols are respectively: “A Man Muffled Up in a Rakish Silk Hat” and “Children Playing Around Five Mounds Of Sand”.  Bear in mind that a Full Moon is making us aware of something, the Sun or consciousness is illuminating the Moon or what is unconscious. It is also that ‘result’ of the New Moon described above. The following interpretations are taken from The Astrological Oracle, helping you to read what these Sabian Symbol are saying to you about your own situation and/or that of the world…

“A Man Muffled Up in a Rakish Silk Hat” (Moon)

SSP045 3-5-13Style as Protection

A case of emotional security having to take precedence over vanity or sex, but at the same being incorporated into it. The combined stylization and protection of self, that one should cut a dash and also be practical, whatever the season or situation. A personal style that moves with the times yet remains ever your own. Attaining or retaining whatever gives you both security and a pleasant life-style. But be wary of a self-conscious affectation that betrays any more profound sense of significance, or risking insecurity for the sake of trying something that (you feel) would expose you too much to the unknown. This Symbol also suggests the relationship between Soul and Personality. The soul is the essential or inner being that clothes itself in the outer appearance of the personality – one’s character, style, image, and the rest of the physical-emotional-mental equipment. Viewed in this way, it can be seen how the way we wear our personality can be a suitable or creative expression of what lies within, or as deceptive, constrictive and ultimately suffocating to that inner dwelling being. Focus on what is actually the nature of your soul – What does it feel? What does it wish to say and do? Where has it been? Where is it bound? The more these questions are properly addressed and answered, then the more successful and satisfying will be the expression your personality gives your soul. “May I address myself to me so the eye inside my head might see.”
“Children Playing Around Five Mounds Of Sand” (Sun)

Child/Adult Interaction

SSP225 5-11-13Hopefully you are interacting with the challenges that life presents you with in a spontaneous and innocent way, thereby creating a valid and rewarding lifestyle. Alternatively, there is the prospect of having children and the responsibilities that they incur. Or, seeing how the passing of time is inexorably set against remaining a child or in a childlike state. Develop or make the most of your adventurous and childlike streak for this helps to take life beyond the humdrum and into a more magical realm of being. The pricelessness of a playful attitude to the challenges and difficulties that life presents one with – having fun as a means of dealing with heavy issues. But beware pointless and indulgent dabbling – or procrastination, for such will make normal problems ultimately insurmountable. The number 5 is representative of the planet Saturn, the energies of which are serious, even depressive, and decidedly unchildlike and unplayful. And so this indicates that the child (literal or inner) and the adult (literal or inner) have to learn to relate, or the child will feel sad and oppressed, and the adult will feel played up and out of control. It is recommended that you try a method call Self-Talk – – where you give a name to your inner child and a name to your adult. Get your child and your adult to talk with one another. If it’s a feeling you experience then it’s the child wanting to say something; if a judgement, it is the adult. Basically, the adult should support the child, while the child lends a lightness to the adult’s state of being. Be very wary of the vicious circle created by feeling low (child) and then condemning it (adult). Back problems can be caused by this lack of support. “Any system…that shocks the mind of a child cannot be a true system” (Thomas Paine)
Combining these two Symbols we can see that they both in their own way speak of the ‘inner’ and the ‘outer’ aspects of life or self: the ‘child or soul’ within and the ‘adult or personality’ without. In other words, this Full Moon is really emphasising the importance of this duality, and how in all walks of life we can benefit from being more conscious of it. For instance, a great deal of the troubles in this world, both personally and collectively, are down to adults behaving like hurt children. They hit out at whatever they see as the big bad adult, which can be anything from the state to their significant other, rather than recognize that the ‘inner’ is projecting onto the ‘outer’ – or vice versa with children being made to pretend they are adults and missing out on the innocence of childhood. The key to peace, in your home or the world, is the attaining of inner peace which necessitates the owning of one’s own shadow.  This Full Moon really lays this bare. The ‘Look and See’ of the preceding New Moon is aimed precisely at this.

Is the End Nigh?

Demons attack detailDemons and Diseases – and What Have They Got To Do With Me?

Current news can either make one shiver or find something else to occupy one’s mind. On the one hand I am talking here of those demons (I won’t mention their names) that are killing, torturing and committing all kinds of atrocity in the name of what they ‘believe’ in. On the other hand, I refer to the greatest outbreak to date of that horrendous disease, Ebola.  If you are like me and need to get a handle on these things rather than bury your head in the sand, then read on…

The astrology of the former, ‘Demons’, is predictable and predicted, and I refer you to my previous posts The Hidden Exposed Part 1- Awakening the Underworld and Part 2 – What Is The Dark and What Comes Out Of It. Here I talked of how dark and horrific events are an expression of our having to awaken to our Collective Shadow, symbolized by the ongoing Uranus (Awakening) /Pluto (Collective Shadow) Major Storm (2007-2020, see diagram/graph).  In other words, astrology can predict such things because it is the science and art of observing archetypal energies in play at any given time, whether it is for the individual or the world as a whole. The significant point here is that these ‘archetypal energies in play’ are a physical manifestation of things that have been bubbling under the surface for some time, like earthquakes and volcanoes, which at certain points erupt, spewing their ‘stuff’ – our Collective Shadow – all over us. So what is this, our Collective Shadow, and what can we do about it? And bear in mind that, like those earthquakes and volcanoes, they occur at various weak points on the Earth’s surface, but they can affect far greater areas than these ‘weak points. Equally the points where these disturbances occur are connected or affected by places where they are not directly happening.  Planet Earth is one great interconnected whole, as we are finding out quite dramatically, and even more so in the near future (see Saturn/Neptune Wave below). Not least of all we are having to put aside relatively minor differences and unite in order to deal with a increasingly dangerous enemy to us all. (see Astrological Weather below)

Darkness and Light, the Evil and the Good

Inasmuch as darkness is simply an absence of light, evil is an absence of goodness. When a powerful planet wave like the Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave rolls in as it is currently doing, then the energies these planets represent can be experienced and expressed as either light or dark, evil or good – it all depends on our state as a species or civilisation, or as individuals. With regard to Pluto, this can be an energy employed as a power for good or a power that is evil. With respect to Uranus, this can be an energy that is awakening or shocking and disruptive.  Like the Wave that it is, its effect depends on every drop, every atom, of the ‘water’ that makes it up.  This means that the overall effect of all planet-waves is down to our collective state as an agglomeration of individual states. This does not mean to say that one is to blame for evil or disruption in the world, for none of this is about blame – an evil in itself.  But it is about every one of us taking responsibility for how much light we are or are not emitting, which includes honestly admitting to, and shedding light upon, our dark patches, that is, our doubts and fears. Light in the final analysis is simply the light of conscious awareness. For example, I know that with focussed conscious awareness I can heal a disease or infection I might have. To do this I really have to engage with that dark area to which pain is drawing my attention, rather than suppress the pain or divert my attention.  The light transforms the darkness into light, negative condition into positive condition.  One of the major positive expressions of the Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave is Awakening (Uranus) to Powers (Pluto) we didn’t know we had.  This is largely because we have to, and it can manifest in any number of areas of human endeavour. It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good.

Dissolving Boundaries

planet weather chartYou will also see in the diagram/graph on the left that there are other Planet Waves occurring simultaneously with the Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave, which, you may also notice, is currently peaking. All these Planet waves are covered in my book Understanding The Future 2007-2020, but the one that is really drawing attention is the Saturn/Neptune Wave/Major Storm which is beginning around now, August 2014, and continues until around the same time 2017. A way of interpreting this Wave in general terms is Dissolving (Neptune) of Boundaries (Saturn) or Sea (Neptune) versus Land (Saturn).  This can have numerous effects – highly notable ones happening during the last Saturn/Neptune Major Storm November 2004 to August 2008 were the Asian Tsunami on Boxing Day 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.  Such dissolving of boundaries can also occur in other ways, like the coming down of the Berlin Wall in 1989 during the Saturn/Neptune Major Storm 1987-1991.

Ebola_virus_particlesWhat I am concerned about here is the Dissolving or Boundaries that manifests as pandemics, for they can spread in ways that we find hard to contain or control.  To name the big three, the Black Death in the 14th Century (1346-53), the Great Plague in the 17th Century (1666-65), and Spanish Flu in 1918 – all occurred during Saturn/Neptune Major Storms.  Not only does Saturn/Neptune involve the crossing of country boundaries, but also immune system boundaries, and species boundaries.  Spanish Flu was reckoned to be originally a bird flu that crossed over to humans. And during the last Saturn/Neptune Wave of 2004–08, there was increasing alarm at the possibility of this happening again with the spread of bird flu.

And now with the incoming Saturn/Neptune Wave manifesting as the greatest yet outbreak of Ebola, we who are not directly affected by any of these Demons or Diseases, could now pose the question…

What Has All This Got To Do With Me?

Saturn/Neptune Waves bring it home to us – or should do – that we are all interconnected, that we ultimately sink or swim together. We as individual humans are all cells in the collective body that is Humanity. This means that your individual state goes to make up the state of the world as a whole. E. Lorenz, a main originator of Chaos Theory, suggested that next month’s weather could well be so delicately dependent on conditions today that it made sense to ask, “Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas”.

Is the End Nigh?

The image of the religious maniac marching along the road with a board proclaiming ‘The End Is Nigh’ serves as a metaphor for our times – but hopefully not an actual fact. Or as Samuel Johnson put it “Nothing concentrates the mind so wonderfully well as the prospect of being hanged in the morning”.  Back to the overarching significance of the Uranus/Pluto Mother Wave, it is saying (shouting) that we must awaken to our positive powers as spiritual beings in physical bodies or we are in grave danger of being seriously affected by powers that are beyond our control.  The secret lies with each one of us raising our consciousness just that little bit more so that a critical chink of light is allowed in to illuminate what is really going on and show the way forward. We have to identify and deal with our personal demons if we wish to keep at bay those very real ones that appear to come at us from the outside.

Responses to my last Blog posting ‘An Invitation To Discuss the End of the World’ – particularly with regard to the main agreement that whatever is going to happen we need to raise our vibration or consciousness – contributed to an idea in my mind which had been put there by reading, for the second time in some years, Joseph Campbell’s book The Hero With A Thousand Faces.  Apart from many other inspiring things, this book promotes the idea that times of crisis call for something original and creative to appear upon the scene to ‘save the day’.  At such times the old methods and troubleshooting procedures just don’t work, any more than do fantasies of the future or hankering after the ‘good old days’.

We Are The Ones We Have Been Waiting For

A time of crisis – and we are certainly in one of those right now, ‘end of the world’ or not – requires a new spirit, a regenerative energy, that springs from within – not some ‘solution’ that is pasted on from the outside.  And this spirit is quite simply described as the Hero within us all, something which effectively amounts to raising consciousness through seeing your life as a Quest, as something that is lived symbolically, as if it was a dream or myth – which it probably is! Personally, I don’t believe it is some ‘second coming’ in the sense of the return of Jesus Christ or some such ‘saviour’.  In keeping with the Aquarian Age, which we are at the very beginning of, this returning spirit is taking place – or needs to take place – within each and every one of us.  As the Hopi Elders’ prophecy says ‘We are the ones we have been waiting for’.

And by Hero we do not mean the hero of film or fashion, which is simplistic, glamorised and fanciful – although the plots of all popular films follow the classic Hero’s Journey (as made beautifully and usefully clear in The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler).  And with respect to popular songs, I think David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ belongs to the merely glamorous category, whereas M People’s ‘Search for the Hero (Inside Yourself)’ is truly inspirational and quite esoteric (Google the lyrics!) and captures the mythic and spiritual quality of the Hero as a unique inner reality that can not only save you but also contribute to the healing of the world in which you live.

Harder but Easier

One of the many paradoxes that are part and parcel of Aquarius and its Age (and of the truth itself) applies to all this: the finding and expressing of the Hero inside of you is very difficult – but a lot easier than living under the illusion that it’s not difficult and then giving up, or vainly hoping that something or someone else is going to sort it all out for you – because both of these ‘easy options’ would result in a harder life.  For instance, not dealing with emotional issues for fear of facing home truths (which personally  I definitely class as ‘heroic’)  can eventually lead to serious physical or psychological problems that have consequences far harder to manage than being honest with yourself.

HEROSCOPES – The Astrological Guide To Your Inner Hero’s Quest of Self-Discovery

How astrology bears upon all this is of course of special interest!  In fact, I have always seen astrology as an aid to finding that Hero inside, the truth of your being, that greater you.  My astrological writing and counsel have always been aimed at helping an individual to find the highest and best in themselves – which necessitates admitting to the lowest and worst – and to live the ‘greater life’, a life that is seen as having a mission and purpose that goes beyond mere ‘getting and spending’.  I remember once I was criticised (by the producer of a radio show on which I held a weekly phone-in) for being ‘high and mighty’ with my interpretations and advice as I was always entreating callers to up their game. At the time I thought that maybe I’d better dumb down (I didn’t), but I now see where I was coming from!  To get better you have to become greater. A good example of my ‘high and mighty’ style are my very first written interpretations (for the Concise Personality Profile) which I wrote back in 1990.  Below I give just the Sun-Sign interpretations, and you will see that they are mainly composed in a way that focuses on firstly your having a life purpose (your Hero’s Quest), then on the personal capabilities that assist this (your Hero’s gifts and aids), and the negative traits that can sideline or compromise that purpose or quest.  Here I have also added a title for each Sign’s heroic nature, as well as something that is absolutely crucial to being a Hero, in fact it is the key to it: what you have to sacrifice.  Also bear in mind that any of these interpretations could apply to you if you have other strong planetary placements in a the Sign in question.

The whole of the Profile – and you’ll know this if you have one – investigates all your planetary positions and aspects in this way.  Also implicit in these interpretations are certain issues in one’s life and personality that are seen by Joseph Campbell as being archetypal in terms of the Hero’s Journey.  For example there are what are called Threshold Guardians that challenge or discourage one, symbolised astrologically by difficult planetary placements and aspects, especially concerning Saturn.  And there is the Call to Action, to embark on your heroic quest, which is the promise and potential that your birth chart reveals – particularly as revealed by the Outer Planets’ (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) calls to transformation and realizing psychic/creative potentials.  Such Threshold Guardians and Calls also manifest particularly in your Transits or Year Guides.

By way of wanting to promote this whole idea of Heroscopes further, I am now offering the Concise Personality Profile and the Year Guide at almost half-price up until end of January 2012 (in pdf only, with no cover, sent by email). That’s 7 GBP or approximately 10.84 USD for the Profile and/or the Guide, instead of 12.95 GBP/20.06 USD!

Now here are those Sun-Sign Hero Profiles which form part of the Concise Personality Profile...

ARIES – Hero of Leadership and Independence

Your essential purpose in life is simply to do something that makes you feel an independent and effective individual. You could be doing this in some form of leadership or selling, or by forcing others to look at themselves in a new way. You could accomplish this either consciously, by carrying out a deliberate act in the name of some cause, or unconsciously, by making it hard for others to relate to you as you are. You should be consciously aware of your pioneering streak, for in this way not only do you enjoy life more, but you avoid feeling pushed around by others. And with you it’s more or less a case of push or be pushed. This can be objectionable at times – and indeed your childlike impetuosity can repel others’ co-operation – but you must have the freedom to act. Don’t just think about it and get pent-up in the process. At all costs you need to avoid negative emotions like resentment, regret or self-pity, for they would deny you what is essential to your Arian nature: Straightforwardness in responding to a challenge with action. You should not be afraid to be forceful in this. If you are afraid, then look for negative examples of force in your personal history that initially compromised your right to assert yourself. This right is like the outpouring of life itself, and nothing should be allowed to get in the way of its innocence and freshness, for this is what enables your Sign, like no other, to set the ball rolling.  Sacrifice whatever it is that is making you Impatient.

TAURUS – Hero of Earthy Goodness and Value

Your essential purpose in life is to maintain the stability of Earthly things. You can go wrong if you interpret this only to mean having a substantial amount of money and possessions, or being assured of a predictable future in a purely tangible world. In actual fact, your main possession is your sense of Earthly harmony and wholesomeness. When you truly get in touch with this sense, you need worry no longer about blindly reassuring yourself with external possessions and securities, for you will then know and feel that this sense attracts these very things. Taurus is the great provider. This is not just in the material sense, but more essentially it is your calm and unruffled vibration, along with a well-vitalised body, that work wonders on the physical and emotional state of others. This could come about through sensuous affection, massage, good living, artistic expression, or just your sheer physical presence that emanates that aura of stability, that feeling that the Earth and Heaven are in their respective and proper places. However, the other side of your Earthy wisdom and natural docility is inertia or grossness – which is born of a fear of change and all that it could mean to you. When you fall into this state, it is only a matter of time before you attract someone or something that will make such immobility uncomfortable and compromising. It is then that a change has to be made, and something must be let go of. You then discover how much more stable and rewarding things become as a result.  Sacrifice something you are Attached to.

GEMINI – Hero of Friendly Communication

Your essential purpose in life is to make contact with, and connections between, whatever or whoever you regard as important – which is more or less everything! This you do because at heart you find everything interesting in some way or another. You are very alive to the variety of animate and inanimate objects on this planet, and you want to get to know as many of them as possible. As a rule though, “get to know” is all you want to do. As long as you have a “taste” you are satisfied; getting deeply involved is not really to your taste, and you will flip like a coin from one interest or person to another as it suits you. There may be other parts of your personality/birth chart that need or are attracted to more intimate situations, in which case a more profound sense of human interaction will be asked of you. Like the many facets of life that you are acquainted with, you are able to turn your hand to many tasks and skills; indeed, it is your hands, as well as your quick mind and wits, that are your most excellent tools. You are, or should be, the communicator. There is nothing like a Gemini for keeping itself, the world and society in touch with each other and with what is happening.  Sacrifice what it is in you that is Evading something.

CANCER – Hero of Home and Nurture

Your essential purpose in life is to nurture and care for whatever or whoever you believe needs it. At first, this is yourself! And the degree to which you received this support in childhood greatly determines how well you go about giving it to yourself or others as you grow older. Esoterically, it is written that all souls are first born on to planet Earth in the Sign of the Crab, simply because they know intuitively that the Cancerian will is the one most likely to find a way of being looked after in their new home. Cancer has been called the “Lighthouse of Welcome”, which is something that the individual Cancerian would do well to become. For when you seek to protect rather than just seek protection, your essential qualities of neediness, sympathy and emotional receptivity then become a recognition of where nourishment and care are needed, along with the motivation and method required to give and sustain them, rather than an aching dependency in itself. What were clinging claws that can clam up in the face of emotional intrusion, then become a pair of open arms that holds firmly and cradles gently. The acute awareness that you have of another’s feelings, which can be misused to emotionally blackmail them, becomes a ray of healing. And that vulnerable side-stepping becomes the sensitive approach that cares for more than just family – but all human beings.   Cancer’s motto could be “Who cares is cared for”.  Sacrifice something you are Clinging to.

LEO – Hero of Creative Individuality

Your essential purpose in life is to bring warmth, light and vitality to whatever you regard as important. Thus you generate more brightness and creativity. In order to achieve this, you have a radiance, an inner glow, that quite magically draws the attention of others. This same quality then lends an air of certainty to whatever it is that you have involved yourself with. What could be called your royal seal of approval bestows a confidence upon whomever or whatever meets with your favour.  The trouble is that your curse is as disastrous as your blessing is great. And the curse of Leo is, of course, pride. Your pride makes you vulnerable to being taken in vain, and when you feel taken in vain, your bright sun goes behind a dark cloud. Some Leos are even born with their sun behind that cloud. And when it comes out again, you are very wary of having your pride wounded again, and anything that alludes to this – like advice or criticism – you disdainfully ignore or patronisingly put in its place. However, when you are the Leo who does put your pride aside, and realises that the sun cannot see its own shadows and so gracefully accepts constructive advice or criticism, you become like the Sun itself – utterly inextinguishable, ever-giving and ever-warm, funny and romantic, the noble ruler, the creative teacher – the healing heart. You, of all Signs, have the Light. All you need do is shine.  Sacrifice something your Pride is not allowing you to see properly.

VIRGO – Hero of Pure Service

Your essential purpose in life is to improve the expression or state of whatever it is that you regard as important. To enable you to accomplish this you are analytical, and are well able to spot the best and the worst in any given person, thing or situation. The danger here is that you can be over-critical and become anxious about things not being right or going wrong. This can apply especially to the functioning of your own body and mind, although such an attitude could also mean that you are particularly good at caring for health generally. However, you need to cultivate tolerance and acceptance of things as they are. As a consequence of all this, on the one hand, you will attract or be attracted to circumstances and relationships which require your accuracy and eye for detail, and that employ your sensitive and helpful disposition. Yet on the other hand, they could try your fastidiousness to the point of isolating you.  This would be a pity, because in a world that needs help more than ever, Virgo’s is the best help there is.  Sacrifice something you are being too Precious about.

LIBRA – Hero of Harmony and Justice

Your essential purpose in life is to bring balance, justice or harmony to whatever it is in your world that you regard as important. You are naturally equipped for this in that you are only too aware of the fact that there is a right and a wrong, a rough and a smooth, a pleasant and an unpleasant, etc, etc. side to every situation and person.  It is this innate awareness of the ambiguities of life that gives rise to Libra’s renowned indecisiveness. But really there is only one basic decision that you have to make. This is that you arrive consciously at a firm set of social values. This means that you have to ascertain what you think is important to society in your eyes, and what you can do that will contribute to society in that respect.  Indeed, that contribution may be simply the establishing of a balanced relationship, or a balance within yourself. Anyhow, until you have begun to achieve this end, this social contribution, you will most likely vacillate between what you feel others expect of you and what you really want to do – something of which you are only partly conscious. This in turn can lead to your being rather superficial as you use your innate sense of harmony to blend in with everything and everyone. Or, perversely, you may even be quite deliberately uncooperative as a kind of overreaction to your basic agreeability. No other Sign can create and draw attention to beauty and justice, in such a beautiful and just way, as Libra can – when you know what your pitch is.  Sacrifice whatever it is that causes you to Fence-Sit.

SCORPIO – Hero of Authentic Emotion

Your essential purpose in life is to deepen and make more genuine whatever it is that you regard as important. To enable you to accomplish this you have an ability to see into the heart and soul of a person or situation, and to heal or transform what you find there.  The response that you get to this insight of yours varies. You can elicit from others extremes of mistrust or devotion, and consequently be either mistrustful or utterly devoted yourself. Your probing intensity can certainly reach the parts that other Signs cannot reach. But if you wish to not emotionally exhaust those people that matter to you, give the probing a break occasionally, for the world will get by for a while without it. This ability of yours to penetrate into another’s emotional reality is sexually based. This means to say that Scorpio’s renowned sexuality is more to do with your mind and feelings than your body.  This is what sets you apart from other Signs, for you are able to “enter” someone else’s space without even touching them. This psychological insight and the powerful influence that it can wield is compromised by one thing only: you suspect that others are doing the same to you with dubious intentions. This in turn gives rise to a downward spiral of discord that appears to prove your suspicions correct. Behind all this is your fear of having the chink in your armour – your vulnerability – spotted and taken advantage of. Spot it yourself first, and you are invulnerable.  Sacrifice something that is an Obsession.

SAGITTARIUS – Hero of Faith and Furtherance

Your essential purpose in life is to further and discover more about whatever it is that you regard as important.   To enable you to accomplish this you are very able to grasp the whole meaning of any subject that appeals to your sizeable enthusiasm.  There is always a danger of running away with yourself and overlooking details, as you get carried along by your zest and full-blown opinions. However, because you are a good manager of things and know how to get the best out of people and circumstances, you have probably equipped yourself with something or someone that keeps you grounded by practical considerations. Some kind of goal, vision or belief is of paramount importance in making sense of your life and use of your prolific nature. By the same token, you need to bear in mind that your ability to make a lot of anything best not be employed solely for material ends – otherwise you could get stumped by a need for something that money or influence just can’t buy. You also, in an impersonal way, like to create friction for it gives you the feeling that things are ‘hot’ and on the move. Yours is probably the most positive Sign for the simple reason that you see life as an opportunity.   So it does not matter too much how difficult the road ahead may look, for it is still a road – and roads go places!  Sacrifice your Sense of Superiority.

CAPRICORN – Hero of Useful Order

Your essential purpose in life is to establish a material position in the world that you regard as useful. In order to accomplish this you have an innate sense of ambition and organisation. You make a point of knowing how the world of politics and business works – along with anything else which your canny mind determines as being practical and relevant to your overall intentions.  Such earthy common sense is something that others depend on you for – and at times can feel rather inadequate in comparison to. However, your weakness is that you tend to overlook or simply not see matters of emotional significance, which are patently obvious to types less pragmatic than yourself. So although you are more likely than most to achieve some sort of success in the world as a result of your industriousness, you are at some point more than likely to encounter a collapse or a profound sense of pointlessness because you have only taken into consideration the practical side of life, and underestimated the importance of unseen factors like human longings and weaknesses, and the mystery of life itself. When your sense of what matters begins to include these more invisible and mystical aspects of existence, you then become the true organiser that you were born to be. When you apply your worldly responsible and hard-working nature to making a sound base for the furtherance of collective or spiritual interests, then you truly feel that you are the success, which you originally thought you would be.  Sacrifice your Status-consciousness.

AQUARIUS – Hero of Invention and Liberation

Your essential purpose in life is to view and approach all things in an impartial and humanitarian way. In so doing, you hope and intend to liberate yourself and others from guilt, fear and conditioning. To enable you to accomplish this, you are emotionally detached to one degree or another. If you like, you choose not even to recognize the emotional shortcomings of yourself and others – or if you do, you shrug them off or distance yourself from them in some way. Being such a cool observer of life makes for your being a natural psychologist, counsellor, scientist – or simply a good friend.  However, this distancing of yourself from awkward emotional areas that reflect your own discomfort can have the effect of divorcing you not only from them but from some of your best qualities. Consequently, you stand in danger of being someone who has been processed and packaged by what you think should be you, rather than what is actually you. And others find it very hard to relate to this, then get very emotional, and cause you to do more of the same! When you eventually immerse yourself in the pool, well or cess-pit of your own rejected feelings, you lend a power and conviction to your outward expression that convinces, influences – and liberates – both yourself and others. The reason for this being that others, and your emotional self, can then identify with you.  Sacrifice your Aloofness.

PISCES – Hero of Art and Healing

Your essential purpose in life is to make acceptable to yourself and others whatever you regard as being important in this respect. Your ways of doing this are manifold. In fact you have more facets and possibilities than any other Sign – and you also have as many ways of disguising them. But you are usually trying to do one or both of two things: to inspire or escape.  Inspiration can take the form of being an artist of some kind, or of being some kind of reliever of suffering. Equally, you could be on the receiving end of inspiration, as say, a lover of beauty and mystery. Your escapist tendencies on the other hand are seen in your inclination to look away from what is really bothering you – probably quite unconsciously. And your means of doing so can range from being ever so intellectual and logical (thereby dodging emotional dilemmas), to being extremely vague – possibly assisted by drugs or alcohol.  Underlying these two extremes of inspiration or escape is one thing: your acute and unrelenting sensitivity to life. Probably the easiest way to handle this in a positive way is with a limited means of escapism. That is, you have say, a drink or two, but not three, so to speak, in order to ease the pain, to deaden the sensitivity to manageable proportions.  However, the nature of the beast in you is inclined to slip and slide, so inevitably a more reliable and healthier means of handling your sensitivity is required – such as meditation, yoga, or some other spiritual practice.   It is very desirable that you keep on the right side of your sensitivity, for it then enables you to catch and express both the comedy and the tragedy, the heaven and the hell, of the human condition.  Sacrifice something to which you are Addicted.

I look forward to your comments, your feelings concerning ‘Heroism’…

An Invitation To Openly Discuss ‘The End Of The World’

All of the following is the product of observation and speculation, going back some years.  I would welcome, more than usual, your comments, hopefully leading to an ongoing and mutually enlightening discussion.

‘The End Of The World’ or some similar cataclysm is the most emotive prospect that there is, and there have been many predictions of such since the world began.  And so understandably, such are met with scorn and dismissal by many people.  At the other extreme there are still a great number who take the subject very seriously – or at least, they have a dramatic response to it or some belief in the possibility.  At both ends of the spectrum though we hear specific responses, like: ‘Life never changes it just stumbles on from pillar to post like it always has’; ‘Ooh I don’t want to even consider such a possibility, life is worrying enough as it is’; ‘I hope something does happen because I’m fed up with the way things are’;  ‘Humanity needs a shaking up to wake it up’; ‘I just find the subject so intriguing’; ‘I want to know what’s going to happen so I can get ready’; ‘If there really was anything going to happen then the powers that be would have told us’; ‘If there really was anything going to happen then the powers that be wouldn’t tell us because they know there’d be panic and chaos’.

Regarding the last two responses, and before I give you my ‘Personal View’ below, here are a couple of bits of information from the ‘powers that be’:

1. NASA predicts a solar storm or eruption (a C.M.E. or coronal mass ejection) for 2012 which very possibly will disable all, or at least a great deal of, electrical and electronic systems.  This means everything from the power supply grid to a microchip.  This could take years to recover from and normalise.  It would also set us back years.

There are already plans to deal with this possibility (kind of, so far).

2.Stanford and Purdue University (and other scientific establishments) have discovered over the previous several years that there are strange emissions coming from the Sun that are somehow altering the fundamental nature of matter.  This has been seen in the phenomenon of some of the most stable elements, like Carbon 14, changing their rate of decay.  What this poses is potentially enormous as it stands physics as we know it on its head, or more alarmingly, it may also mean that everything on Earth is mutating – for some reason.

Then there are, shall we say, the more alternative ‘end of the world’ scenarios.  These are two major ones which coincide only too well with the above:

1. The End of the Mayan Calendar December 21 2012.  Whether this is accurate or literal or not depends on what ‘expert’ you listen to. It could mean from a polar shift or just a shift in our consciousness, or both – and any time from right now until 2020.  There are so many sites on it all, so just Google it if you wish to form your own opinion (best of luck!).

 2. The comet Elenin. This comet supposedly passes very close to us and as it aligns with various planets in our solar system causes earthquakes (it has already apparently done so with the quakes in Haiti, Japan and New Zealand) and worse (including setting off volcanoes, like the ‘super’ one beneath Yellowstone Park, that are overdue in erupting and would cause a kind of nuclear winter as it blots out the light and heat of the Sun).  This is covered well, though possibly with rather too much dramatic licence, in a film called The Quickening.

There is also the old negro spiritual which somehow resonates with the NASA prediction: ‘God gave Noah the rainbow sign /No more water, the fire next time.’

Now for…

My Personal View

As an astrologer my attention has been drawn to the co-incidence of all this with the Uranus-Pluto Square, or Mother-Wave as I call it, that is happening 2007-2020 and is the subject of my last book Understanding The Future (2008).  However, the peak of this Wave is 2013-2014 and not 2012, particularly when Jupiter moves into the planetary picture mid-2013 to mid-2014, focussing especially on April 20/21 2014 when all three planets align very tightly (and tensely) with the Earth.

In order to obtain some further perspective on this ‘window’ I consulted the tarot with the aid of very intuitive and tuned-in tarot-reader.  We used the classic ‘Yes/No Spread’ which gives for each question, depending on where the Wheel of Fortune turns up with one of seven other cards drawn, one of four answers: a categorical ‘yes’ or ‘no’, a ‘yes and no’, and a ‘subjective’ meaning that your issue is purely personal and not objective about the external situation. So this is not a simplistic flip a coin method. Our questions were simply ‘Is there going to be a physical global disaster in 2012, in 2013, and/or 2014?’ In answer to ‘2012’ we got a ‘yes and no’ answer, which we interpreted – at the end of the whole reading – as things ‘hotting up’ but not actually a totally global thing. To ‘2013’ we drew a categorical yes.  This was qualified by the accompanying card ‘The Hermit’. This is a lone man holding a lantern, someone who is having to find their own (inner) light.  Hmmm. To ‘2014’ we again drew a categorical ‘yes’. This time the card accompanying and qualifying this answer was: ‘The Hermit’, again!  Considering that before each question one extracts the Wheel of Fortune, shuffles the deck thoroughly and selects the seven cards from a fan, the odds of this happening twice in succession are very high.  We both found this disquieting, having got a bit more than we’d bargained for.

Having said all this though, I have to emphasise that I am in no way 100% certain that this is when ‘something’ is going to happen, or if it actually is going to do so at all.  All predictors or prophets are notoriously vague and have a poor record of accuracy.  The most famous of all, Nostradamus, said that ‘In the July of 1999 the King of Terror will come from the sky.’  This has got to be referring to the destruction of the World Trade Centre by terrorists 26 months later!  My own nearest claim to accuracy was predicting (in Horoscope magazine January 1989) that there would be a ‘dissolving of boundaries’ around the full moon of November 13th 1989.  The Berlin Wall came down four days earlier.  So with regard to 2012, let’s just say that I am warning not to rest on one’s laurels and think we are in the clear when the 2012 Winter Solstice has been and gone. Conversely, I would also be wary of certain pundits, some of whom are astrologers, who patronisingly fob us off with a nannyish ‘Oh don’t you worry your little heads about there being a catastrophe, as if…’  But they are missing the point that ‘prophecies of doom’ are there to wake us up, and by waking up we avert that doom.  As Dr Samuel Johnson said back in the 18th century: ‘The realisation that one is to be hanged in the morning concentrates the mind wonderfully’.

This brings me more specifically to my personal view, which has to include what it means to me in practical terms.  And the word ‘practical’ has to encompass everything from the most basic physical survival to the most spiritual and mystical response to it all.  But first, my practicality adopts a ‘belt and braces’ attitude.  I am reckoning on being prepared, on the one hand, for there not being a civilization shattering event, and just the usual bumbling and stumbling roughly onwards and upwards. So I will keep on doing what I always do, and attempting to do it better – which more specifically means raising my vibration, what I regard as a centrally important imperative which I explore below.

On the other hand, being prepared for an apocalyptic event – in addition to simply being fearless enough to simply and coolly entertain the prospect in the first place – stretches from a strictly survivalist mode at the physical end of the spectrum, to a quite rarefied mental attitude at the other end.  Reverting to a backwoods scenario, with the mentality to match, doesn’t quite ring true for me.  And it is at this point one can appreciate why for many if not most people the whole thing doesn’t bear thinking about; it is so outside of the box of what we have come to regard as normal modern life. Unless one has, in addition to the relevant mindset,  resources such as a defendable property, big fuel supplies, generators, a basement full of dried and canned food, plenty of lanterns and candles, water from a well, not to mention guns to repel marauders and squatters – then I think one has to adopt the ‘spiritual’ and more ‘visionary’ view.

The essential quality of the visionary take on it all is based on that ‘raising one’s vibration’ which I referred to above as getting better at being oneself – and mainly in a spiritual sense.  It also involves being prepared and able to see life in energetic or symbolic terms, rather like the poet John Keats’ philosophy of Negative Capability, where one ‘is capable of being in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason’.  In this model we see what is happening to the Earth and the human race as an ‘upgrade’.  I described this some time ago in my book Divine Astrology (2005) and it can be downloaded from here and found in the Uranus chapter pp 125-145 The Human Upgrade

I have also described a similar process in Understanding The Future where I used the metaphor of us ‘being subjected to some kind of “scan” that reads our “vibration”, our state of spiritual evolution, our energetic make-up. What that scan is could be anything from just the demands of living in these times of Planet-Waves that challenge you to keep your balance and “stay on your surfboard”, or it could be the arrival or intensification of some unknown energy within the Earth’s biosphere; something akin to whatever it is that so mysteriously creates crop circles’. Or, in the light of the discovery described above, it could mean a mutation of the very fabric of our physical existence. The point is that it is one’s vibration that determines whether the scan allows you through to a higher dimension of reality, or whether it leaves you at a lower dimension (like where we are now?).  Put simply, if one’s vibration is low that means one’s state of being is predominantly determined by fear, destructiveness and selfishness.  If one’s vibration is high then one’s state of being is keyed to love, creativity and a sense of oneness. What or where our actual ‘reality’ is going to be need not concern us.  Ours is not to know this, but only to raise our vibration.

Astrology – that is genuine astrology, the astrology of the soul, as distinct from dubious predictions and superficial character descriptions – comes into its own here because the Planets symbolically convey to us what we are supposed to be doing and where we are supposed to be going in terms of our spiritual purpose.  A birth chart can tell you the essential reasons for your being here, which may – and usually do – run counter to a more conventional idea of what having a ‘successful’ life is all about.  It also tends to take preference over ‘doing good’ and ‘saving the planet’ and other such noble pursuits and, instead, concentrates on cleaning up one’s own backyard.  Like, would you have somebody dress an open wound with unwashed hands? When all is said and done, I believe we are each here for utterly personal reasons – yet at the same time this contributes to the state of the whole, for good or ill.  Also, in an ongoing way, that is, with respect to the planetary transits that affect through time, we are ultimately attuning ourselves to, and intuitively following, the dictates of some Higher Power, which the planets are emissaries of or portals to.  If for instance, I have Pluto affecting me strongly, then it is vital that I plumb my depths without reservation and ruthlessly eliminate the outworn and negative, and not try to skim issues.  If I have pronounced Neptune transits, then surrendering to the invisible or spiritual dimension through meditation or some form of creative attunement is vital.  If it is Saturn that I have weighing down on me, then I need to get real in the sense of being objective and mature – and if the cosmic traffic lights say ‘stop!’ or the ‘sign’ says ‘slow down’ then I do so knowing that it is for a good reason that I will become aware of in due course .  And so on and so forth. Genuine astrology enables one to be led by the Divine Conductor as you play your instrument in its orchestra. One lives a metaphor.  This effectively means that one is aligning and attuning oneself to a quantum or higher reality rather than merely to how things appear to be in this three-dimensional reality which, for the most part, is regarded as the only reality.  And this is the whole point.  If there is going to be an apocalypse it is in aid of divorcing us from this fixed and limited idea of reality.  The question is: Are you ready to be transported.

To end on a quite hopeful and, at the same time, what could be regarded as a fantastical note, it is thought by some – and with a definite measure of intuitive conviction – that this whole apocalyptic scenario is being overseen by extra-terrestrials (some of whom may simply be higher dimensional versions of ourselves).  Furthermore they have been trying to tell us – via crop-circles mainly – that the impending solar storm is not only coming but will be deflected by a fleet of UFOs!  Why?  Probably because Planet Earth and the Human Race are very significant in the greater scheme of things.  And all of what has been briefly described above is about waking up to and being ready for this possibility. This is why ‘raising one’s vibration’ is the best, if not only, response to all this ‘doom’, because it amounts to upgrading our software (our brain-minds) so that we can attune to these higher agencies and thereby assist them in assisting us.  And one of the best examples of how to raise one’s vibration is the Shadow Process explored in the postings preceding this one. You and I and They are One.  Personally, I would really like to believe this – if only because, if things are going to get really heavy, it is the only thing which is a comprehensive and positively transformative solution – at least, that I can think of.  A case of having to believe?

I hope you can gather from the above that I am in no way casting anything in stone, and am aware that there a many other facets to this important subject, important because even if it is all just in our imagination – what put it there in the first place?!  I really want you to share your views and versions of all this. So watch and use this space!

The Hidden Exposed – Part 2

Here is the second of my two postings, extracted from my book, written 2006/07, Understanding The Future(2008) concerning the Uranus-Pluto Mother-Wave that lasts from 2007 to 2020.  This excerpt from UTF points more to the personal significance of  it – which in fact creates the collective or global manifestation of it – which could be summed up as having to wake up (Uranus) to your – and our – shadow (Pluto)…

2. So What Is The Dark, and What Comes Out Of It?

A deeply significant thing that comes out of the Dark, the Underworld, is reminiscent of what the philosopher Nietzsche called will-to-power. Nietzsche himself intended this to mean a force of Nature that exists in everything to be what it fundamentally is to the max, and to not let anything inhibit or overrule it.  And to indulge in it, celebrate it, create from it.  So here we have a sense of depth, destiny and doom stoked up, often wrapped up in hedonism, and churned to the surface for all to see and experience.  And although the urge to dominate is not what is meant by will-to-power – it being an perverted form of it – this is something which unfortunately also belches forth. Let us examine then some of the expressions and forms that this Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave will take, and is already taking, as the Dark is dealt out and delved into.

First though, we have to remember that so much Dark has already been let out the bag during the 20th Century – especially during the Sixties – mostly because so many taboos have been broken; not least by the news media that now shows the dead and the dying as a matter of course.  Before the 60’s it was usually regarded a bad taste to do this.  Likewise, raw sex and nudity now mostly bypass censorship; and hardcore pornography is accessible to anyone in the click of a mouse. Once such dark and very real things were only glimpsed at, or implied by innuendo.  Now they are shoved right in our faces because it really is time we had a good look at them.

Now it would seem that true will-to-power, the urge to delve into and experience the extremes of what we really are, is unavoidably linked to the degenerate, psychopathic and despotic.  In Lord of the Rings speak, there are no elves without orcs, no savers of the day without there being those that threaten to dominate and enslave.  Uranus/Pluto can empower freedom, or destroy it; cause us to dramatically rise or drastically fall.  Everything depends on us recognising and expressing power in a good way, or allowing it to be used in a bad way.

There is horror in the world because powerful feelings have been denied and allowed to fester, so that when they do erupt to the surface we are shocked and appalled, even though we have been dangerously desensitised by media exposure.  Today as I write, I hear of a man who stabbed his partner 145 times.  What kind of human volcano is that?!  And this is just an individual; think of what is bubbling under globally.  But then, as Understanding The Future is constantly at pains to point out, what goes on globally has everything to do with how each one of us is thinking, feeling and behaving – and with what goes on in this basement of our being. The threat of worldwide disaster – through nuclear war, disease, climate change, or whatever, is simply the collective volcano – and this may simply express itself as an actual volcano that is drumming its fingers as we speak! [UPDATE: Witness the Japanese earthquake/tsunami, New Zealand, Chile and Haiti earthquakes, etc].

To turn our attention to the Underworld NOW and see and deal with what goes on down there, will buy us a stay of execution, give us the time and insight that would enable us to prevent the bowels of the Earth, the sump of all our unlooked at shit and shadows, from bursting all over the place.

Another example of the Dark rising is paedophilia.  There have always been child molesters, or smell-smocks as country people used to call them hundreds of years ago, but mostly the lid was either kept on their desires by a quaint thing called moral restraint, or it was covered up – particularly in areas where it was least expected to be, like the Church (ironically the source of such restraint).  Now we have internet child-porn – again just a click away.  Ease of access and little or no inhibiting factor equals an explosion.  But here’s the point.  Nearly every paedophile has also been a victim of child abuse, and probably their abusers were abused too, ad nauseam.  The vents of this particular type of human volcano run very deep, and it, like many other types, is fit to burst during this Wave. The need to purge and the need to forgive, or at least be deeply aware) are two pleas that Uranus/Pluto flips to the surface, in that order.

And lest it be overlooked, some of the darkest shadows of all are the ones that are projected – especially because they can go undetected.  It is all too easy to scorn and despise the degenerates of this world because they provide a convenient screen upon which to project and disown our own, albeit far lesser, dark and dubious feelings [Witness the ‘innocent’ sexualisation of children in the way that they are encouraged to dress and behave].   As Hermann Hesse wrote in Demian:

If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn’t part of ourselves doesn’t disturb us

Yet another example is the predicament of computer video games obsessing and distorting the development of children. Exposing and subjecting young minds to the compelling nature of the dark images of the Underworld – quite literally with sinister products like Grand Theft Auto – is like putting someone behind the wheel of very powerful car when they have no idea how to drive or of the true dangers of the area they have been lured into exploring.  In fact, this is a valid metaphor for what such irresponsible or just plain ignorant exposure to the Underworld has done to all of us.

Most basically, this Uranus/Pluto Wave is again trying to wake us up to the very existence of the subconscious mind, for that is what the Underworld simply is in modern terminology. The actual ‘discovery’ and naming of the subconscious was, after all, made by Sigmund Freud during the Uranus/Pluto Wave of 1896-1907.  But generally people are still ignorant of it in a practical sense – like being aware that they have a subconscious and there are things lying down there they ought to know about before they leap out and do something desperate and destructive from which there is no going back! The point being that while this Uranus/Pluto Wave is rolling this is liable to happen with greater frequency and intensity. As far as the unconscious mind is concerned, either you go down there and take a good look, or it’ll come up and get you.

Identifying, resisting and eradicating what is corrupting our world is the most important task. But like with our band of heroes in Lord of the Rings, some of us will be sorely tempted to succumb to these powers in the form of fixations, addictions and lusts – mistakenly rationalising them away as being harmless or consistent with human rights – and thereby, on a personal level become undone, and on a public one, be too soft on the peddlers and perpetrators of that corruption.  Knowing when and how much to forgive or condemn is a real challenge of this Uranus/Pluto Wave.  At one extreme, there is the danger of the ‘moral backlash’ of knee-jerk, black and white, pseudo-religious repression snowballing into a latter day witch-hunt.  At the other extreme, there is a mindless and destructive indulgence posing as freedom, accelerating and intensifying the downward spiral that has already begun, progressively set in motion through previous and ineptly surfed Uranus/Pluto Waves. Again we have to ask ourselves:  Knowing what we now know about past Uranus/Pluto Waves, how shall we ride this one?

As ever, the middle way is the one to aim for.  Uranus/Pluto wants us to discover and experience our will-to-power, to experiment and discover what we truly feel and want – often through crisis and being cruel to be kind – as opposed to what we have been led to believe we should feel and want.  Most of all though, in pursuing this truth of who and what we really are, we must let others do so too, without harming or judging.  Pluto must have its due of will-to-power, but Uranus must exact its due of equal rights.  This is the ultimate balancing act as we ride this Mother-Wave; a balancing act that in the end involves a personal journey into your own darkness, your own shadow, wherein lies your own truth.

Delve in My moist and shady den

And you will find true wealth within.

Feel your darkness, feel your pain

Fall to Me and rise again

Immortals steeped in innocence

The Hidden Exposed – Part 1

This is the first of two postings that are excerpts from the book which I wrote during 2006/07, Understanding The Future (2008), that is concerned with one of a number of critical stages – which I call Mother-Waves, this one lasting from 2007 to 2020 – in the current Uranus-Pluto Cycle.  This Cycle begun with a Mother-Wave in the Sixties (1960-1972), a time of great change and upheaval which appropriately initiated the Cycle.  It is essentially a Cycle of awakening (Uranus) with respect to all things Plutonian, which are explained below.  These postings were prompted by the current News Of The World scandal in the UK, a classic case of Uranian truth-seekers laying bare the Plutonian sewer of nefarious goings on in corridors of power, as too are the likes of Abu Ghraib, CIA torture, etc. and probably many other, and even bigger cases, to emerge during this Mother-Wave.  In this first of the two postings we look at this passage from UTF

 1. Awakening to the Underworld

The Underworld, of which Pluto is the Lord, is anything that lies beneath the surface of life or the everyday world.  From this zone issues forth all those things that are regarded as dark and dirty, deep and intriguing, horrific and unmentionable, compelling and profound, occult and shamanic, sexy and beastly, cruel and criminal, creepy and crawly, gothic and ghastly.   But it is also the very bowels of the Earth, and the putrefying, corpse consuming, cosmic compost heap that causes Pluto, volcano-like, to grumble…

My realm wherein all rots and dies

The beauty above ground belies.

The blooms I feed, your world to grace

But you dare not behold My face

And lose yourselves in vain pretence

But when the Great Awakener Uranus logs on to Pluto’s site we really are forced to wake up and have a good look at his ‘face’ – at what we and life are like deep down – for a veritable volcano of Underworld contents spews all over our little day-to-day world of troubles, trivia, gossip, soaps and inconsequentialities.

This phenomenon was brilliantly dramatized in that most feted of books and films, The Lord Of The Rings.  Its popularity, along with some lesser specimens of the sword and sorcery genre, is in some part down to the fact that it plays out what is going on all the time, but relatively out of sight (as is Pluto’s usual style).  And like many great works, TLOTR has a darkly prophetic quality about it, and a seam of profound and scary truth running through it.

So we have Hobbits living in the Shire – that is, little people living their little lives in relative peace in a rural idyll, complete with a good selection of creature comforts and cosy sentiments. Then from afar, something dark and threatening to that way of life looms in the form of the Dark Lord, his Dark Riders, and those hordes of malformed lowlifes, the Orcs  – all classic negative Plutonian figures.

Successfully countering all this mayhem is the Wizard Gandalf and his band of heroes comprised of individual members of the various races that exist in their world.  This all appeals to us because it has meaning.  But that meaning is not always consciously grasped because, like the Hobbits, there is an unwillingness – at least, initially – to accept that there are dark and destructive forces abroad, and in turn a reluctance to accept the call to play a part in getting to the heart of them and thereby overthrowing them.

And now, as the Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave of 2007-2020 surges,  we must accept that there are ‘dark forces’ abroad, identify them more closely, and do what must be done to make something positive out of the situation – which means to accept and understand what  the ‘dark’ is all about.  Mainly this includes looking at our own shadow. Gandalf is the shaman, the one who knows the ways of dark forces and how to resist them, and how to turn them to his advantage. What critically equips him for this is an acute awareness of his own darkness; he was called Gandalf the Grey initially, evolving by the end to Gandalf the White. His band, that comprises representatives of all the races of Middle Earth, are of course simply that with respect to Planet Earth.  Interestingly, it has been said that TLOTR was an allegory of the rise of Hitler and Nazism and the allies resistance to, and ultimate victory over, them – something which began during the Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave of 1928-1937 during the previous Cycle.  Tolkien himself denied this, but that does not discount the idea.  Indeed, when a writer becomes too intent on making a point through allegory, his story winds up being self-conscious and contrived, which TLOTR certainly is not.  And whatever allegory was put there unconsciously, is all the more powerful.

In any event, and again interestingly from our Planet-Wave perspective, TLOTR did not actually take off and become a worldwide success until during the next Uranus/Pluto Mother-Wave of 1960-1972, when the hippie culture made it its own.  The allegory then being one of elves and the like versus the dark, straight and oppressive state.

UPDATE: Much of the above, and the last sentence in particular, is reflected in all the uprisings against tyrannical states, especially in the Arab world, that have been occurring during this Mother-Wave 2007-2020.  In the next posting of The Hidden Exposed we will look at what this means on a more personal level, and how that in turn affects the world as a whole.
